About Allan Maticic

I was born in Brisbane, Queensland. I grew up and went to school between bay-side Redcliffe and the Sunshine Coast, so have a love for all things that involve the ocean. I Have worked in many different industries and had several different successful businesses.
First creative exploit was in Melbourne in my mid twenties where I created Le Pot – designs in decorated terracotta. Give me a pot and I’d paint it. Eventually I had up to 10 employees painting pots and distributing them throughout Australia. After having sold the business, I moved back to Queensland to be closer to family and dabbled here and there with art.
Having moved to Port Douglas in 2004 I discovered the joys and underrated beauty of Far North Queensland and met some artists who inspired me to experiment. in 2009, I had a spanner in the works via several heart attacks, so moved home to the Sunshine Coast and decided that life was way too short to not do what you wanted to do.
So I started painting. With a passion. I love the colours and light filling my life and there isn’t a single day where I don’t marvel at the amazing shades of all the colours around me. As I once heard – “Colour provides an almost limitless vocabulary with which to communicate how we see and how we feel” (M. Leach, 2006).
I am learning the language of colour with a passion and hope to become a fluent ‘speaker’ of this language one day. I love the process of drawing, painting and experimenting and I attach as much importance to the process as to the final product. I always have to be active with my hands and
mind, whether it is painting, cooking, reading or playing on the beach with my eternal puppy “astroboi”
Experimenting plays an important part in my work, encouraging the unexpected and fostering new discoveries. My preferred medium is Acrylic Paint on Canvas, using various layers and textures. I use
brushes, and scrapers and any other utensils that help me create the effect that I’m looking for. However, what inspires me the most is colour. Using a range of neutral shades, then adding splashes of colour. I love simplicity and sophistication.
After experimenting in various paint forms, I am always drawn back to abstract. My inspiration comes from every day urbane/coastal/country living, I see shapes, reflections, colours, shadows and textures in everything which come together on the canvas.
Using many blends of colour (usually acrylics) these paintings display an individual sense of confidence and sophistication. Exploring the abstract in a fresh and carefree way.
I enjoy the challenge of creating something different. My unique style of painting suits private collectors and corporate offices, spaces, hotel foyers and boardrooms. Existing artwork pieces or commission artworks are available for clients with a taste for individual and original pieces. Let me colour your world! Oh and I am a great cook too!
